The Price of Magic is Immutable
Magic started when the first wizard was slain by a mob. They took his magic and went corrupt; then later in other dark corners of the world they were killed for "miracles." So generations of magic-users sprang up.
To gird your baubles and metal in the secrets you must find a magic-user. Kill them atop a pile of your wealth (see this post for guidelines) and let the blood melt the gold into worthless dirt. Bury the item in the magesoil for the indicated time divided by the number of killed magic users.
