Summary
Sully has already written an excellent play report over here and I can offer very little elaboration.
The party struck out from Solna and made it to the Keep where the ruling lord Sir Erik told them of problems with ogres. The party rushed him to get the assembled hunters ready at once so they could start right away! The hunters gather and the entire train heads out into the woods around the mountains. It wasn't long until they found an ogre sentry. Despite killing the lord in a blow the party quickly overwhelmed the beast, making quick work of it by shooting off its hand. Some quick field surgery and Big Thumb aided in the plan to kill the chief of the ogres with a poisoned prize buck! Despite the ogres being displeased with Big Thumb for being bested in combat, they chow down on the deer resulting in the chief dying of a horrible bout of vomiting.
During the night while they squatted in the ogre's camp they heard the voices of knights in the woods. The order was given for Big Thumb to cause an avalanche! They picked through the corpses of the dead come morning.
Reflections
Oh man I am so happy to be playing DCC again. I have talked before about my misgivings with classes and levels but DCC sidesteps a lot of that by having the classes be so capable and specific. Levels in DCC feel extremely powerful as it is one of the best choices for a long term hexcrawl game as so much of what the core of the game is are the consequences for pursuing power and trying to mitigate them. Imagine if a wizard cast a max level Knock spell in the dungeon... What all could possibly go wrong?
