The Shit
- The party is heading towards the castle
- Andred Steps forth to the guard mustering his finest Scottish accent and dial up faxes an appropriate reason for being here
- "The town of Odd is descending into Fairy control, and I do not mean to speak above my post but sir such and such is content to do... nothing"
- Request is made for some advice to keep Odd from Fairy control, and for protection
- The fair lady says she will look into the matter and to return for answers/instruction. A knight escort is provided until the river crossing.
- Camp is pitched, Andred & Milktongue find four hours worth of firewood
- The party makes some exquisite food
- Redacted incorporates all four food groups: Beans, bacon, whiskey, and lard
- Wumbus makes some crazy ass veggie shit with some choice herbs and spices
- Tolumbolo forages in the forest and finds some really cool fungus (PHENOB GANG RISE UP)
- Milktongue hunts moles in the forest and definitely aces it absolutely styled on some moles it wasn't a struggle whatsoever
- Andred tells campfire stories
- Party arrives to the clearing
- Milktongue and hireling are sent to investigate the standing stones before the big mound and see if it's clear
- The standing stones are for some sort of Fae summoning ritual
- The slime hole is investigated. It's very, very smelly. Grossly stinky. The slime seems to be mildly acidic. Perhaps not enough to inflict damage, but icky and acidic nonetheless. After tossing a torch in, it leads to a back room in the mound dungeon.
- Party enters the dungeon and crosses the threshold of Fairy
- Forested area with lots of trees, a frozen lake, and a tower
- Children skating on the lake
- The children inform the party there is a dinner happening in the tower, and they snuck away to skate. the lady is in the tower
- A golemn bouncer stops the party at the door. Only those on the list are allowed in. Some are allowed, the others are required to eat a mushroom in order to enter
- The mushroom inspection agency (Wumbus & Tolumbolo) investigates the mushroom for their toxicity
- The sentient mushroom says there's some weird shit going on with those mushrooms
- Tolumbo eats a mushroom and gets glowing yellow eyes
- Milktongue eats a mushroom atop venison and vomits worms and maggots for an entire hour
- Andred eats a mushroom and every follicle of hair on his (goat) body grows to ten feet in length
- [REDACTED] eats a mushroom and gains a saving throw!
- The party gains entry to... the party!
- Inside the tower
- Party bumps into the head cook elf who instructs the Andred to bring a large platter of meat to the party
- Andred takes big issue with being ordered around, and fucking kills the cook with a blow that was far too well placed
- The golemn and goblin debate what to do with Andred
- It's eventually decided that the altercation was a consensual duel, and the party is begrudgingly allowed into the party
- The party has a minor internal scuffle as to whether we should bring the half eaten platter up to the party, as it might be... rude....
- Arriving at the party, wine is given to all party members
- Those who drank wine reallllly want to stay in Fairy...
- Going upstairs, the ghost guy is reunited with the lady of the tower
- They're getting MARRIED
- Andred is the best man
- Wumbus is bestowed the estate of the ghost man
- HE'S RICH
- The ghost bestows many shiny trinkets and gems to Wumbus and the party for delivering him to the tower lady
- Evidently this pocket of Fairy and the material world will drift away after some time. Frigia
- Andred is requested by the ghost to pretty please be an honorable knight
- Wumbus pleads with Andred to only kill evil things with the shiny sword
- Wumbus and Andred try to figure out what they can do to try and reanimate the murdered cook
- The party realizes Tolumbolo is suspiciously absent while we're out at the lake, and Wumbus goes back into the tower to try and find him
- Lighthouse eyes is good and drunk, and really doesn't want to leave the party...
- Andred trades blows with the golemn a final time instructing him to not throw the cook into the mold pile. Maybe we'll be back. With a Cleric! Maybe.
- Milktongue finally stops violently upchucking maggots and worms. He's so hungry.
- The golemn gives him another mushroom, which Andred then eats.
- He's now laughing... and crying? And laughing! And sobbing...
- Emerging from the mound, there's a breggle knight with ladies who lay injured in the field
- A large beast has attacked this breggle knight
- The breggle knight was escorting these ladies to the chamber of sleep when they were attacked. The beast looked like a knight at first, adorned in black robes.
- While chatting, six figures in black robes appear at the edge of the forest. The lead of the group has a deer head, and has blue flames surrounding it.
GM Notes
We wrapped up Winter's Daughter today! A pretty decent dungeon. I see why it's so well reviewed. I will write more thoughts about in a longer After Action Review but it had a tone that I usually don't hit with my games that was quite fun. The dungeon itself was kind ho-hum in terms of layout, the three lanes don't offer a lot of interesting paths. But the different ways into Frigia are interesting.
I am pretty happy with how into Sir Chyde's quest they all got. It took us a few sessions as they went back to Prigwort to make proper precautions. Now they have a whole bunch of stuff to tend to: preventing Odd from vanishing after they broke the stone there, trying to revive the cook that Andred killed, Hands-Bound-by-Crows' mission to spy on the Nag-Lord, and Lady Harrowmoor's unspoken request. Dolmenwood really lends to a string of favors and excursions.
