Dolmenwood Session 10: Over the falls and down the stairs

Thoughts

The party has gone off to train for level 6! So for the next two weeks we're going to the other party up in the northwest who are basically bandits.

I could probably be more strict with checks and saves but I always love the adding of tension of mounting disasters. I think if I was a little more cruel a player or two would have gone over the edge.

Session

The party headed down the Upper Haneth in their canoes. Two barrowbogeys on the shore were arguing over a piece of pie, but Cottonsocks conjured treats to make both of them happy! They made good progress but forgot about the perils of Naon Falls! Lord Cottonsocks was not too worried as he prepared a floating disc under his canoe. Shank jumped from the canoe and tried to make it shore. Jymes jumped out of his canoe to join Cottonsocks but overshoots! Shank pushes off of Banack's canoe to get to shore, sending Bagnack's canoe spinning. Shank makes it to shore. Bagnack shoots an Ioun Shard at a tree to grab to prevent going over! Shank pulls him to shore after dangling.

At the top of the falls Shank and Bagnack see a set of stone stairs leading down. They make their way down the slick steps until a gust of wind blows them over the edge. Shank falls. Bagnack holds onto the edge, seeing the wind came through an illusory wall in the cliff face. Cottonsocks catches Shank before he can break upon the earth. Bagnack pulls himself up and goes down the stairs to tell of the icy cavern.

Cottonsocks is bemused at their descent but reminds them that the treasure is now at the bottom of the river. Crawling back into the canoe for a cat nap, Bagnack must go diving in the freezing river. Most of the treasure is recovered and Bagnack warms himself by the fire.

In the morning Shank goes into the water to find the remaining treasure. He finds the necklaces but a hand reaches through the silt. Aghast he swims back to shore. A group of Merfaun surface! They seem pleased to see the party and give Bagnack some trout eggs.

Later they see the ramshackle structure of Fort Vulgar and decide that going to town is a bad idea and head back to the ice caves to investigate.
